Background, Lamentations 1.1-22, of Jerusalem, and the sins and sufferings of the people.
Today's Scripture:
Lamentations 3. 1-21, esp. In 17-21, this chapter is about Jeremiah's penitent grief over Judah's suffering.
vs. 2-16, ref. to He for God, note clearly the human predicament.
vs. 21, consider as the text, “… therefore I have hope…”
St. Luke 4.16-20, Divine assistance is available.
Weekly Readings:
Job 16.1-12, God is responsible for my crisis…
Psalm 51.1-10, A request to God - please.
Psalm 119.9-56, What promotes hope?
St. Matt. 8.1-4, “Lord, you can make me clean.”
St. Luke 4.16-20, The availability of divine deliverance.
Thought: It’s emotionally difficult to believe the source of one’s struggles is God, who is only responding to
human behavioral attitudes and practices.
Jan. 11th:
Background, Lamentations 2.1-22, the capture, siege, and destruction of Jerusalem.
Today’s scriptures:
Lamentations 3.22-36, notice the clear social justice concerns…” Does the Lord not see these
circumstances?
St. Matt. 5.43-6.1, Is this what it means to be a Christian?
Weekly Readings:
Psalm 22.1-12, the need of God for this generation is the God of former generations.
Psalm 42.1-5, our hope is in the God of then.
Habakkuk 3.14, the glory of God shall reign on earth again.
Malachi 3.6-12, a call to repentance, honesty in giving tithes and offerings.
